Our Kerberos Tripel is here. We’ve been fielding so many questions about this Belgian-style strong ale, that we thought we better bring in the big guns for this video preview. Eric Warner + Matt Brophy = Big Deal.

Kerberos Tripel Ready to Guard the Gates of Your Fridge

Posted by Neal  Published in Canis Major, Beer, Announcements Permalinks

Kerberos Tripel Bottle Shot

Kerberos Tripel is the newest addition to our Flying Dog “litter of ales” as it joins our highly acclaimed Canis Major Series.

Kerberos Tripel is a bottle conditioned, strong Belgian-style ale with a slightly hazy appearance and mousse-like head.  It is brewed with Golding and Saaz hops and Pilsner and Aromatic malts to yield a medium body and champagne-like carbonation.  Kerberos pairs perfectly with Turkey and other poultry, creamy cheeses, fruit pastries, desserts and crème brulee.

Head Brewer, Matt Brophy said, “Extensive pilot system brewing allowed us to experiment with a variety of recipes and yeast strains. We ended up with a strong Belgian Ale that starts off sweet up front, fruity in the middle and has a really nice dry finish.”

Look for Kerberos to be hitting the shelves here in the next few weeks.  It will be available in 4-packs, full cases and on draft.  As always, if you’re having trouble finding it, email us or ask you your favorite store to pick it up.

Posted by Neal  Published in advertising, Canis Major Permalinks

We’re taking this bitch international. To help us do that, we’re advertising in some beer magazines this year. We’re talking hot shot craft beer publications like DRAFT Magazine, BeerAdvocate and All About Beer.

Here’s a look at our ads you’ll be seeing in 2008.

New York Times Article Features Flying Dog

Posted by Chris  Published in Canis Major, Beer Permalinks

Double DogThe New York Times recently released an article on big beers, A Taste for Brews That Go to Extremes. This article highlights the budding obsession American brewers and drinkers have with cranking out bigger and badder brews. The article features our Double Dog Double Pale Ale along with 20+ other beers produced from a myriad of brewers across the country. For the full article, check out this link.

FLYING DOG RELEASES VERY LIMITED TEST BREW

Posted by Chris  Published in R & D, Canis Major, Beer Permalinks
Barrel Aged Horn Dog Many people who visit the brewery have the impression that we have uber secret brews stashed
away that we don’t share with the public. Well, all those people would be right.

This Wild Dog is our Horn Dog Barley Wine aged in used Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey Barrels for 14 months. This was one of our secret stashes that we made for our drinking pleasure with no intensions of ever releasing it to the public. Luckily, for all you out there in the People’s Republic of Flying Dog, we over shot a little on the volume and ended up with about 700 extra 12 oz. bottles of this brew. This very limited Wild Dog beer is only available through the tasting room and upon request at that. This beer won’t be around much longer, so come get your grubby paws on some.

Due to the extremely limited nature we are raping people for $8 a bottle. Supply and demand folks, were in no hurry to get rid of this stuff.

R & D

Posted by Neal  Published in R & D, Canis Major Permalinks

It’s always pretty easy to find people to participate in some research and development around here. At a brewery, you can also call this process “sampling beers and exerting your opinion on anyone who will listen.”

Tuesday was R&D day for the new Trippel we’re planning to launch at the beginning of 2008. We all sampled a variety of Trippels from around the world and waxed poetic on what we smelled and tasted, while Head Brewer, Matt Brophy diligently took notes and contemplated the recipe.

This new beer will be the 4th member of our Canis Major Series which already includes Horn Dog Barley Wine, Gonzo Imperial Porter and Double Dog Double Pale Ale. All of our Canis Majors are what can be considered “big” or “extreme” beers. They are available in 4-packs and on draft.
