Kerberos Tripel Ready to Guard the Gates of Your Fridge

Posted by Neal  Published in Canis Major, Beer, Announcements Permalinks

Kerberos Tripel Bottle Shot

Kerberos Tripel is the newest addition to our Flying Dog “litter of ales” as it joins our highly acclaimed Canis Major Series.

Kerberos Tripel is a bottle conditioned, strong Belgian-style ale with a slightly hazy appearance and mousse-like head.  It is brewed with Golding and Saaz hops and Pilsner and Aromatic malts to yield a medium body and champagne-like carbonation.  Kerberos pairs perfectly with Turkey and other poultry, creamy cheeses, fruit pastries, desserts and crème brulee.

Head Brewer, Matt Brophy said, “Extensive pilot system brewing allowed us to experiment with a variety of recipes and yeast strains. We ended up with a strong Belgian Ale that starts off sweet up front, fruity in the middle and has a really nice dry finish.”

Look for Kerberos to be hitting the shelves here in the next few weeks.  It will be available in 4-packs, full cases and on draft.  As always, if you’re having trouble finding it, email us or ask you your favorite store to pick it up.

The Session: Beer People

Posted by Chris  Published in George Stranahan, Craft Beer Industry, Beer Permalinks

The SessionAny man who claims he was destined to own a brewery - since his first sip of beer at age 12 - and follows it up by starting a brewery that has grown into a fixture of the craft beer landscape has my respect. A lifelong educator, philanthropist and entrepreneur, George Stranahan built Flying Dog Brewery to reflect a culture and product that match his own ideals. Beer mixed with art, with a little irreverence thrown in. You’ll never see George speaking at industry seminars or writing books about food and beer pairings. He chooses to sit and enjoy our world class ales on his Woody Creek, Colorado ranch in peace and lets the beer do the talking for him. Check out the video below to get to know George a bit better and learn the origins of Flying Dog Brewery.

Cheers to you George!

Session #12 - Barley Wines

Posted by Chris  Published in The Session, Beer Permalinks

The SessionBarley wines can come in many colors but one thing remains constant, they will knock you on your ass if you’re not careful. Brewed to a minimum of 8.4% (often far stronger) most barley wines take a few months to complete fermentation because of the copious amounts of sugar the yeast needs to process. This leaves Barley Wines with a sweet, rich flavor profile. American-style Barley Wines are often power hopped with American hops to over-power the residual sweetness whereas English-Style Barley Wines tend to accentuate that sweet malty profile.
Barrel Aged Horn
Horn Dog LabelFlying Dog’s Horn Dog Barley Wine is a traditional English-Style Barley Wine and the senior member of our Canis Major Series of hi-gravity brews. Winner of a World Beer Cup Silver Medal, Horn Dog has the hardware to stand up to the World’s best Barley Wines. The aggressive nature of this beer make it an ideal candidate for barrel-aging. The bottle on the right is a very limited Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey Barrel-aged version of Horn Dog that spent 13 months in oak and is only available in the Flying Dog Brewery tasting room. Check out the stats below for all the technical specs on Horn Dog Barley Wine.

Alcohol by Volume: 10.5%, O.G. 1.107, IBUs 45
Specialty Malts: 120L Crystal, Munich, 30-37L Carastan, Chocolate, 2-Row Pale
Hops: German Perle, Northern Brewer, Cascade

The only thing we understand from the video is “Snake Dog” and “Flying Dog Brewery” but we trust Rick has the rest under control.
