American Craft Beers featured at July 4^th opening of new U.S. Embassy in Berlin, Germany
Export Development Program helps promote sales of American Craft Beer in the U.S.

Boulder Colorado. • July 15, 2008 —Beer from American craft brewers flowed in Berlin as dignitaries from Germany and the U.S. gathered to open the new U.S. Embassy on the Pariser Platz square.  The July 4^th event was attended by over 4,500 guests including current German Chancellor Angela Merkel, former President George H. W. Bush, and former ministers of the German government.  Today, exported beer from American craft brewers is in demand with over 50% more sales in 2007 than in 2006.

“We wanted to celebrate the return of the U.S. Embassy to its historic home in downtown Berlin in a very American way,” commented Bobby Richey, Jr., Counselor for Agricultural Affairs for the U.S. Embassy in Berlin. “We chose to serve U.S. craft beers because they embody many of the attributes typical of U.S. agricultural products: quality and innovation.”

The Brewers Association’s (BA) Export Development Program received the request for American craft beers from Richey. The reception featured 47 different craft beer brands from 13 American craft breweries.

“The Brewers Association is very proud to be a part of the festivities surrounding the new opening of the German Embassy in Berlin. Exposure of American craft beer abroad actually increases demand in the U.S.,” stated Brewers Association Vice President Bob Pease. “To have our members’ products requested and sampled at the birthplace for many of the beer styles our members proudly brew today is a testament to the quality, flavor and diversity of American craft beer —which is increasingly being recognized as a world-class brand.”

Today (July 18) is Hunter S. Thompson’s birthday.  He would have been 71 years old today.

The fine folks from Jack’s Bistro in Baltimore came by the brewery to see how we make beer a couple weeks back.  Judging from this picture, they had a good time.  That’s what I call “info-tainment”!

The on-premise team from Freeman Beverage took a break from flogging the dog and stopped by to sample some of the fine beers they sell.

Hopefully our VP of Sales, Jim Lutz (the creepy guy in the background) showed them a good time.

Ok, so maybe this competition isn’t recognized by the Brewer’s Association or anything, but a win is still a win.  Ken Megal of Milwaukee, WI and his friends recently held a bracket-style beer tasting competition.  All of the beers were from the U.S. and our very own In-Heat Wheat won whole damn thing.

Design, Drink and Be Merry is the title of a new art show that just closed at the Goggle Works Center for the Arts in Reading, PA. This unique art exhibit featured label art from craft breweries around the country. Flying Dog was on proud display unleashing Gonzo gospel on the unsuspecting public.
